President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has called on European countries to confiscate vessels from Russia's "shadow fleet" and direct the seized oil toward European security needs.
As reported by Hvylya, the head of state wrote about this on social media platform X, commenting on a joint operation by Belgium and France to intercept a Russian Federation oil tanker.
According to the Ukrainian leader, the detained vessel had been under US, EU, and UK sanctions for a long time.
Zelensky noted: "Despite this, it continued to illegally transport Russian oil under a false flag and with forged documents. We welcome these decisive actions against Moscow's 'floating wallet' and thank France for supporting the operation."
The President emphasized the need to modernize European legislation. He insists that tankers carrying Russian oil should not merely be stopped en route but have their cargo fully seized.
"Russia acts like a mafia organization, and the response measures must correspond to this reality. If they reject rules for the sake of war, then the rules must provide for a clear and harsh response," Volodymyr Zelensky concluded.
Earlier, we reported that Macron showed footage of the seizure of a Russian "shadow fleet" tanker in the North Sea.
