Slovakia has halted emergency electricity supplies to Ukraine in retaliation for the suspension of oil transport through the Druzhba pipeline.

As reported by Hvylya, Prime Minister Robert Fico announced the decision.

Fico stated that should Kyiv request assistance to stabilize its energy grid, no aid would be forthcoming. Bratislava is prepared to resume support only once the oil pipeline is fully operational again.

"If Zelensky thinks that blackmailing Slovakia with oil will bring Ukraine closer to the EU, he is sorely mistaken," the Slovak government head declared sharply.

The transit of Russian crude oil through Ukrainian territory ceased on January 27 following massive Russian attacks on energy infrastructure. Facing the loss of this key import source, Slovakia and Hungary declared a state of emergency in their oil sectors. Both nations accused Kyiv of refusing to repair the damaged pipeline and completely halted diesel fuel exports to Ukraine.

In February 2026, Slovakia accounted for approximately 18% of Ukraine's total electricity imports.

Previously, Hungary blocked a €90 billion EU loan for Ukraine ahead of the invasion anniversary.
