The United States has launched an emergency evacuation of its diplomats and government personnel from Israel amid a growing threat in the Middle East, as the region stands on the brink of a potential large-scale war with Iran.
The U.S. State Department officially announced the move on February 27, 2026, according to Hvylya. The department has authorized the voluntary departure of non-emergency U.S. government employees and their family members from the diplomatic mission.
The decision follows an increasing number of security incidents. The U.S. Embassy emphasized that the situation is evolving rapidly and warned it "may impose additional restrictions or a total ban on travel for employees and their families" to specific areas of Israel, the Old City of Jerusalem, and the West Bank without prior notice.
American citizens have also been strongly advised not to remain in the potential conflict zone. Diplomats are urging citizens to "consider leaving Israel while commercial flights are still available."
Meanwhile, Chinese authorities have also reacted to the sharp escalation in tensions, officially calling on their citizens to leave Iran immediately.
