U.S. Special Representative Steve Witkoff stated that Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin has been consistently "candid" during their private meetings regarding the war in Ukraine.

According to Hvylya, the American official shared these insights during an interview with Fox News. Witkoff noted that he has frequently faced criticism for his contacts with the Russian dictator, whom he has met a total of eight times.

"He was always candid with me. And when I say that, I get attacked. But it is a true statement. He told me what his red lines were," the special representative said.

The official emphasized that such conversations were absolutely necessary to understand the motives and goals of the opposing side before reaching any agreement. According to him, these meetings are now proving vital as the United States clearly understands the Russian position.

"And I don't think the Ukrainians disagree with our assessment. So I think those meetings were important, and I hope we're going to get this whole thing finished," he added.

Witkoff also suggested that "good news" regarding the end of the war could arrive in the coming weeks and did not rule out the possibility of a summit involving Volodymyr Zelensky and Vladimir Putin in the near future.
