Ukraine's Defense Forces have successfully attacked Russia's Kapustin Yar missile test range using advanced weaponry. A series of effective strikes was carried out throughout January.
As reported by Hvylya, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine officially confirmed the operation.
According to the military, the operation employed FP-5 Flamingo cruise missiles manufactured by Fire Point. The strikes on the strategic facility in the Astrakhan region damaged several buildings, while one of the hangars sustained significant destruction.
"Ukrainian-made long-range assets were used to engage the targets," the General Staff emphasized.
The choice of target was not accidental: Russia has used Kapustin Yar to launch Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missiles at Ukraine. The last such strike was recorded on January 8 targeting a Lviv suburb, when the enemy missile reached a speed of approximately 13,000 km/h.
Analysts from the Exilenova+ group clarified the attack timeline: the FP-5 Flamingo missile struck the test site's infrastructure on the night of January 27–28.
The existence of the Flamingo was first publicly discussed in late August 2025. It is a powerful long-range weapon with a penetrating warhead weighing 1,150 kg. Its stated range exceeds 3,000 km, allowing the Ukrainian Armed Forces to strike targets deep within the enemy's rear.
"The missile is protected against Russian electronic warfare systems, reaches a maximum speed of 950 km/h, and features a body made of composite materials," the technical specifications note.
The developer is also working on versions of the missile with other types of warheads.
