Ukraine has successfully received its first shipment of American liquefied natural gas (LNG) this year. The delivery results from strategic cooperation with the Polish state-owned concern ORLEN and has already been integrated into the Ukrainian gas transmission system, according to Naftogaz CEO Sergiy Koretskyi.
The shipment totaled approximately 100 million cubic meters. The tanker arrived at the Polish terminal in Świnoujście in late January, after which the fuel was promptly pumped into Ukraine. These volumes are critical for supporting the nation's energy system.
"To put it in perspective: this volume is enough to cover a month of winter consumption for approximately 700,000 families," the company head emphasized.
The additional resource will help the country withstand peak loads during extreme frosts and ensure stability amid persistent Russian attacks on infrastructure, Koretskyi explained. Throughout 2026, Ukraine plans to import up to 1 billion cubic meters of gas from the United States.
"We are working systematically with international partners to ensure Ukraine has the resources to stably navigate the winter despite constant attacks on gas and energy infrastructure," noted the Naftogaz CEO.
Cooperation with partners continues at an active pace, with the next shipments of American fuel already under contract.
"I am grateful to our partners at ORLEN. Subsequent batches of American gas are already contracted and will be delivered to Ukraine in February and March," Koretskyi concluded.
