European nations are taking decisive steps to safeguard their interests as the situation surrounding Iran continues to escalate. Italian Defense Minister Guido Crozetto announced the deployment of a multi-purpose task force to the Middle East, signaling a significant reinforcement of the region's security architecture.
The contingent will include state-of-the-art air defense systems and specialized anti-drone capabilities designed to intercept potential missile strikes. Operating alongside military units from France and Spain, the Italian forces will also provide defensive cover for Cyprus.
In a parallel move, Paris has granted the United States permission to use its regional military bases for the temporary stationing of aircraft. An official spokesperson for the French Armed Forces confirmed the decision, emphasizing that it was dictated by long-standing allied obligations to Washington.
Despite these active military preparations, European leaders are maintaining a clear political distance regarding the prospect of regime change in Tehran. German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul stated that Berlin would not participate in any direct operations aimed at toppling the Iranian leadership.
