The United Kingdom will provide Ukraine with a new military aid package worth over £500 million. The package will include defensive missiles and air defense systems.
As reported by Hvylya, the announcement was made by UK Defence Secretary John Healey, according to Sky News.
Healey stated that for the first time, London is channeling £150 million into the NATO PURL fund (Priority Urgent Replenishment List). These funds are designated for the rapid procurement and delivery of air defense missiles to protect Ukrainian skies.
"Together we must get Ukraine the air defenses it needs against Putin’s brutal offensive," Healey emphasized.
Additionally, under a separate £390 million deal, Ukraine will receive 1,000 Lightweight Multirole Missiles (LMM), manufactured in Belfast.
This significant statement was made against the backdrop of meetings in Brussels, where members of the Ukraine Defense Contact Group and NATO defense ministers have gathered. The event is co-hosted by John Healey and German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and Ukrainian representative Mykhailo Fedorov are also participating in the discussions.
It is worth noting that the UK has joined the PURL initiative, which facilitates the purchase of necessary weaponry, including U.S.-made equipment. Currently, about three-quarters of NATO member states participate in the program, along with alliance partners Australia and New Zealand.
We previously reported that the EU approved record aid for Ukraine.
