Russia launched a large-scale combined attack overnight on Kyiv, the surrounding region, and several other areas across Ukraine, utilizing Shahed UAVs and, according to preliminary reports, Kinzhal, Kalibr, and Iskander-K missiles. The strikes lasted through the night and continued into the morning.
Kyiv: High-Rise Damage, Fires, and Fatalities
The capital was the primary target of the attack. Confirmed information indicates that six people were killed and 14 were wounded, including a child. Medics hospitalized at least eight of the injured.
The most severe damage occurred in several residential areas:
-
Pechersky District: Missile debris struck a 22-story building, causing destruction on the 4th through 8th floors and triggering a fire. Residents, including a person with limited mobility, were evacuated.
-
Dniprovsky District: A drone or missile hit a nine-story apartment block, killing two people and injuring five others. Rescuers pulled 17 individuals, including three children, from the rubble. Fires inside the building have been extinguished, and structural clearing operations are ongoing.
-
Rusanivka: A drone flew directly into an apartment, resulting in two fatalities.
-
Darnytsky District: An impact on a non-residential building was reported, with emergency services currently on site.
-
Sviatoshynsky District: A non-residential premise and the territory of a logistics center belonging to a supermarket chain were hit.
Four people who were outside on the street and in a parking lot were killed during the attack, and three others were injured. Rescuers do not rule out the possibility of people remaining under the rubble.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported numerous calls to emergency services and urged Kyiv residents to remain in shelters, stating: "Kyiv is under fire again. Emergency services are working at all sites of impact and rubble".
The capital's TEC-5 and TEC-6 thermal power plants were struck. The Ministry of Energy confirmed damage to energy facilities, which may lead to interruptions in electricity and water supply in the capital and the region.
Kyiv Region: Bila Tserkva, Brovary, and Other Districts Under Fire
In the Kyiv region, the Brovary, Bila Tserkva, and Vyshhorod districts came under attack. In Bila Tserkva, a four-story apartment building was damaged, and at least four private homes were completely destroyed.
A 14-year-old child was among the injured. The State Emergency Service (SES) evacuated 46 residents from the building and basement premises. Heating and aid points have been established, and psychologists are working on site.
Other Regions: Strikes on Ports, Infrastructure, and Residential Buildings
Explosions and destruction were reported in the Odesa, Kharkiv, Sumy, and several other regions. In the Odesa region, six people were wounded, including two children. Strikes also targeted ports and food infrastructure facilities.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that the total number of Russian projectiles used was extremely high:
"Russians used 22 various types of missiles and over 460 drones. The main targets are the energy sector and everything that ensures a normal life. These strikes have no military rationale."
The President also noted that Russians launched four drones toward Moldova and Romania, providing the exact time of their overflight.
Zelensky emphasized that international support must not stop: "We must save lives every day. Weapons and air defense are critically important. There can be no pauses in aid to Ukraine."
The SES, police, and medics are working in all districts of Kyiv and the Kyiv region where impacts or debris falls were recorded. The search for people under the rubble and the cleanup of the numerous fires continue.
According to updated data from the Ministry of Energy, over 40,000 consumers remain without electricity in the Kyiv region, 20,000 in Odesa, 13,000 in Chernihiv, over 21,000 in Dnipropetrovsk, and over 8,000 in Kharkiv. Emergency and repair works are underway in all regions following the massive missile and drone attack.
To stabilize the energy system, emergency power outages were implemented in Kyiv, as well as in the Kharkiv, Poltava, and Sumy regions. Hourly outage schedules are in effect across the country, alongside power limitations for industrial consumers and businesses.
Ukrenergo stresses that current schedules are published on the official pages of the regional energy companies and urges citizens to consume electricity rationally, especially during peak load hours in the morning and evening.
