Speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff reported significant progress in negotiations to end the Russia-Ukraine war, stating that talks have effectively narrowed down to a single key issue.
"I believe we have narrowed the issue down to one question. We have been discussing variations of that question, and that suggests to me that it is solvable," Witkoff noted.
The diplomat expressed confidence that a compromise is reachable if both parties are genuinely committed to resolving the conflict. He specifically praised President Volodymyr Zelensky's active engagement in the negotiation process.
Beyond the diplomatic track, Witkoff outlined a major economic initiative proposed by Donald Trump: the creation of a tariff-free trade zone for Ukraine, which would grant direct access to the U.S. market.
"The President has spoken about creating a duty-free zone for Ukraine, which I believe is a game changer. You are going to see manufacturing flock to the region. Imagine having a competitive advantage because you are paying no duties to ship into the United States," the special envoy emphasized.
Witkoff also shared details regarding the negotiation team's schedule. The delegation is set to depart for Moscow this evening for a brief visit before heading to the United Arab Emirates.
"That is a critical stop because that is where the working groups will take place—in Abu Dhabi. Military issues, prosperity issues," he concluded.
