Russian officials have reported a Ukrainian drone attack on the 4th State Central Inter-specific Range, known as Kapustin Yar, in the Astrakhan region, Militarnyi reported, citing Russian media.
According to sources, air defense forces were active in the area. The Kapustin Yar facility is known as a testing ground for the Oreshnik medium-range ballistic missile system. Russia reportedly used this weapon to strike a suburb of Lviv on January 8, after which media outlets published images of missile debris.
In addition to the Oreshnik, Kapustin Yar is used to test a broad spectrum of short- and medium-range missiles, cruise missiles, and air defense systems.
This is not the first reported attack on the facility. A previous drone strike occurred in July 2024. At that time, Russian sources released footage showing drones striking an assembly and testing building at the range.
