U.S. President Donald Trump has stated that his team has made "huge progress" toward ending the war between Russia and Ukraine, noting that the original 28-point peace plan has been refined with only a few points of disagreement remaining.
"Over the past week, my team has achieved huge progress in ending the war between Russia and Ukraine. 25,000 soldiers died last month. The original 28-point peace plan, developed by the United States, has been refined with additional input from both sides, and only a few points of disagreement remain," Trump wrote on social media on November 25.
The U.S. President announced that Special Envoy Steve Witkoff will meet with President Putin in Moscow, while Army Secretary Dan Driscoll will meet with the Ukrainians. Trump noted that he, along with Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, will be briefed on all progress.
"I look forward to meeting with President Zelenskyy and President Putin soon, but ONLY when the agreement to end this war is FINAL or in its final stages," Trump emphasized.
The statement came a day after Andriy Yermak, Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, told Axios that Volodymyr Zelenskyy is ready to meet with Trump "as soon as possible" — potentially on Thanksgiving — to finalize a joint U.S.-Ukraine agreement.
In his evening address on November 25, Zelenskyy confirmed work on the document. "Today we also worked with the Ukrainian negotiating team regarding the text of the document developed with the United States in Geneva. The principles of this document can be developed into deeper agreements," the Ukrainian President stated.
Zelenskyy highlighted that Russia continues to launch massive strikes even during negotiations. "There was a massive strike – and it is especially cynical that Russia launches such attacks while talks are underway on how to end the war. America is very active, Europe is very active, as are our other partners. Everyone has the same agenda, yet for Moscow, the war against Ukraine invariably remains the top priority," he said.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukrainian air defenses shot down over 400 attack drones, as well as cruise, ballistic, and aeroballistic missiles last night. On November 25, a meeting of the Coalition of the Willing took place, involving nearly 40 countries, including the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand.
"I am counting on continued active cooperation with the American side and with President Trump. Much depends on America because American strength is what Russia reckons with the most," Zelenskyy concluded.
Earlier, Axios reported that the U.S. and Ukraine had agreed in principle on most aspects of the plan, which has been significantly altered from the initial 28-point proposal. The main stumbling block remains the territorial question, which Zelenskyy wants to discuss personally with Trump.
