Russian occupation forces have launched a targeted attack on civilian railway infrastructure in the Kharkiv region. The strike hit the Barvenkove-Lviv-Chop passenger train.
The attack was confirmed by Oleksiy Kuleba, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration, and Oleh Synehubov, Head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration.
Preliminary reports indicate that Russian forces used three Shahed attack drones in the strike. Impacts were recorded in front of the locomotive and directly on a passenger car, causing both the carriage and the locomotive to catch fire.
There were 291 passengers on board at the time of the incident. All were quickly evacuated from the immediate danger zone.
"As of now, there are two confirmed injuries. The train crew escorted them out and handed them over to emergency medical teams. Both have been hospitalized," Kuleba noted.
Reserve buses are being organized for the passengers, including those evacuated and those waiting for the return train at stations. All emergency services—rescue workers, medics, and a Ukrainian Railways team—are currently working at the scene.
Government officials underscored the cynical nature of the attack: "Striking a passenger train is a direct act of Russian terror against civilians. There was no military target."
