Ukraine is bracing for deep freezing weather on Tuesday, January 20. Overnight temperatures in the northern and western regions are expected to plummet to critical levels in some areas.
As Hvylya reports, meteorologist Natalka Didenko announced the forecast on Facebook.
According to the outlook, overnight lows will range from -12 to -18 degrees Celsius, with the mercury dropping as low as -20 degrees in parts of the north and west. There will be little relief during the day, with temperatures expected to hover between -6 and -11 degrees.
Road conditions remain hazardous due to ice. Winds are forecast to be westerly or north-westerly, light to moderate. No precipitation is expected on January 20 as an anticyclone dominates the weather pattern. Kyiv will also see a dry, frosty Tuesday.
Didenko noted that while the frost will begin to recede in the second half of the week, this shift will bring new weather challenges.
"To be honest, the easing of the frost will coincide with the arrival of precipitation and stronger winds. This will create uncomfortable conditions on the roads, in apartments, and even physically—affecting heads and blood pressure," the meteorologist warned.
The expert also emphasized that it is too early to let one's guard down, as severe cold could return in late January or early February.
"It seems the period for 'lazy meteorologists' is coming to an end—the days of simply writing 'anticyclone' and freezing quietly with the rest of the citizens are over. But no matter how comfortable or uncomfortable the Atlantic front might be, let it come, even with its wind and precipitation. Eventually, we have to overcome this envious Asian frost anticyclone," Didenko concluded.
