U.S. President Donald Trump said he held a "good and very productive" phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump announced the conversation on his Truth Social platform on December 28.
The call took place ahead of Trump's scheduled 1:00 p.m. (8:00 p.m. Kyiv time) meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The meeting is set to be held in the main dining room of the Mar-a-Lago residence, with press invited.
"I just had a good and very productive phone call with President Putin of Russia ahead of my meeting today at 1:00 P.M. with President Zelensky of Ukraine. The meeting will take place in the Main Dining Room at Mar-a-Lago. The Press is invited. Thank you for your attention to this matter!" Trump wrote.
Earlier in the day, Volodymyr Zelensky reported holding a phone call with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
The leaders discussed preparations for the meeting with President Trump and contacts with European partners. Zelensky briefed Starmer on the frontline situation and the aftermath of Russian strikes.
As a reminder, Trump and Zelensky may face serious disagreements in their vision for peace.
