The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported on March 26, 2026, that a successful strike was carried out on the Kirishi oil refinery in Russia's Leningrad region.
Overnight on March 26, units of the Ukrainian Defense Forces targeted the facility. According to preliminary information, a fire broke out at the plant, igniting primary oil refining units and two storage tanks. The exact results of the strike and the full scale of the damage are currently being clarified.
The Kirishi refinery is among Russia's top three largest oil refineries. With an installed processing capacity of approximately 20-21 million tons of oil per year, the facility accounts for over 6% of the aggressor country's total oil refining volume. Its capacities produce a wide range of petroleum products, including fuel used to supply the Russian armed forces.
"The Ukrainian Defense Forces will continue systematic efforts to degrade the military-economic potential of the Russian Federation and reduce its ability to supply occupying troops. Strikes will continue until the terrorist state completely abandons its armed aggression against Ukraine," the General Staff stated.
Ukraine's Unmanned Systems Forces (USF) confirmed their involvement, noting they continue to strike Russia's Baltic strategic cluster.
"The focus is on interconnected elements of the enemy's energy infrastructure: the Kirishi refinery, which supplies petroleum products via pipelines to the ports of Ust-Luga and Primorsk for subsequent export," the USF reported.
Each of these facilities has already been targeted by drone strikes. The military emphasized that this is part of the systematic destruction of the Russian oil refining and export chain, spanning from raw materials to processing and shipment.
The Kirishi refinery (KINEF) was struck by operators of the USF 1st Separate Center in coordination with other defense units. As a result of these attacks, Russia loses vital production capacity, the ability to maintain stable exports, and crucial funding for its war effort.
"Meanwhile, the Ust-Luga port continues to burn," the USF added.
