US Secretary of State Marco Rubio held a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference. The primary message from the American side was the White House's desire to end the war as quickly as possible.
According to Fox News, as reported by Hvylya, Rubio shared details of the encounter on his X account.
"Met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy on Ukraine's security and deepening our defense and economic partnership. President Trump wants a solution that ends the bloodshed once and for all," Rubio wrote.
Zelenskyy also confirmed that ahead of crucial negotiations in Geneva, set to begin this Tuesday, he spoke with Trump’s envoy Steve Witkoff and the President's son-in-law Jared Kushner. The Ukrainian leader noted that the government aims to make the Geneva round "truly productive."
"Not everything can be discussed over the phone, and our negotiating team will present Ukraine's position next week," the President added, also referencing developments that have followed previous meetings in Abu Dhabi.
Zelenskyy previously told reporters that the US has set a clear deadline for a peace agreement between Kyiv and Moscow: June. If no deal is reached by then, the Trump administration is expected to increase pressure on both parties to the conflict.
Marco Rubio also reported discussing peace settlement issues with G7 colleagues in Munich, promoting the US President's vision for achieving peace and countering global threats.
"We highly appreciate that America consistently maintains a constructive approach and is ready to provide assistance in protecting lives. I thank President Trump, his team, and the people of the United States for their support," Zelenskyy concluded.
