Tucker Carlson, one of the most influential voices shaping MAGA hostility toward Ukraine, has seen his political stock fall sharply as his embrace of extremist rhetoric has drawn increasingly sharp criticism from fellow conservatives.

As "Hvylya" reports, citing a Foreign Policy essay by Atlantic Council senior fellow Adrian Karatnycky, Carlson has been "an active conduit for Russian propaganda," including his gushing praise of life in Russia, his fawning interview with President Vladimir Putin, and lies about the alleged suppression of religious freedom in Ukraine. His large audience, the analysis notes, "has long made many natcons reluctant to challenge him on Ukraine."

But Carlson's trajectory has now taken him beyond what many on the right can stomach. The commentator has embraced anti-Jewish stereotypes and given a platform to admirers of Adolf Hitler and Joseph Stalin, earning comparisons to Father Coughlin, the notorious antisemitic radio priest of the 1930s. He has also platformed Nazi apologists and conspiracy theorists alleging persecution of Christians by Israel - all while expressing admiration for Saudi Arabia, where any public expression of Christian belief or display of Christian symbols is banned.

Carlson's opposition to the Trump administration's increasingly interventionist foreign policy toward Iran and Venezuela has further contributed to his marginalization within the MAGA coalition. A figure who once set the terms of Republican debate on foreign policy now finds himself at odds with both the administration's direction and a growing number of conservative opinion makers.

The broader effect on the Ukraine debate has been significant. Carlson's views played a key role in ensuring that a large portion of MAGA's grassroots base - especially its most motivated activists - remained hostile to Kyiv. As his influence wanes, one of the primary obstacles to pro-Ukraine sentiment on the American right is weakening.
